The Armed Forces Medical Examiner determined that DNA on debris recovered from the crash matched that of Abigail R. Milam, Kathryn M. Bailey and Michael L. Nelson.
Milam was from Jenkins, Kentucky in Letcher County. She entered active-duty military service in August 2011 as a UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter Repairer. She was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade and 25th Infantry Division.
Her awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with two loops, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with award numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, and the Aviation Badge.
Friends and family held a vigil service for Staff Sergeant Milam just after the crash happened.
Milam, Bailey and Nelson went missing along with two other soldiers on Tuesday, August 15 after their Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed off Oahu’s North Shore.
Nelson, 30, was from Antioch, Texas and entered active-duty military service in July 2006 as a UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter Repairer.
Bailey, 26, whose home of record is listed as Hope Mills, North Carolina, entered active-duty military service in August 2015 as an Aviation officer.
The other two people involved in the crash are still missing.
