Sheriff's deputies and state police tactical teams surrounded the shooter's home on Hill Ridge road, that is about 4-miles from the crime scene. He had barricaded himself inside for nearly three hours while officers negotiated with him by phone to surrender.
"The suspect came out peacefully, and was taken into custody peacefully. There were no injuries associated with the arrest," First. Sgt. Reece said.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what led to the shooting.
"There were multiple weapons found in the vehicle, as well as around the residence. so at this time it has not been determined if there was one weapon or multiple weapons used."
A Wellmont Spokesman says his wife, Teresa Sykes, is in serious condition.
His mother-in-law,Glenna Robbins, is in critical condition and his father-in-law, David Robbins, is in fair condition.
Sykes is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Haysi.
He is charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
