According to Kentucky Health News, PMC is among Leapfrog’s top safety picks and is the only Kentucky hospital to get straight “A’s” since the rankings began in 2013. Of the hospitals reviewed in Kentucky, only 21.3 percent earned an “A.” This is lower than the national average of 31.3 percent.
“We are pleased to once again receive the top safety rating from The Leapfrog Group and to be a leader in patient safety,” said President/CEO Walter E. May. “Having received straight ‘A’s’ since 2013 demonstrates that Pikeville Medical Center consistently makes patient safety a top priority.”
COO Juanita Deskins said, “At Pikeville Medical Center, patient safety comes first. We are honored to have earned straight ‘A’s’ from The Leapfrog Group for our efforts.”
“Earning Straight ‘As’ in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a remarkable achievement and testament to a hospital’s ongoing vigilance and commitment to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We thank Pikeville Medical Center for being an example of excellence in preventing harm to patients, and urge you to continue championing patient safety.”
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
