Gillespie is a business owner, longtime conservative leader, and a Republican candidate for Governor in the June 13, 2017 Primary. He is the son of an Irish immigrant who started his career as a parking lot attendant and eventually worked his way up to become Counselor to President George W. Bush and Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Today's luncheon will be open to the public, hosted by Slemp, Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes, Wise County Treasurer Delores Smith, Delegate Terry Kilgore, and Delegate Todd Pillion, who have each endorsed Gillespie. Just last week, Gillespie received the endorsement of over 50 law enforcement leaders across the state, including Wise County's Sheriff Ronnie Oakes and Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp. A complete list of endorsements can be found here: https://edforvirginia.com/endorsements/.
Slemp said, "We are excited to host today's events. Ed Gillespie is an effective leader and businessman. Ed will be an incredible Governor for all of Virginia, especially our region here in far Southwest Virginia. He has committed to making economic development, public safety, and diversification of the economy of our region a priority as Governor."
Gillespie will also be at the Big Stone Gap Visitors Center with Slemp and others for a "meet-and-greet" today at 5:00 p.m. in Big Stone Gap.
