“Thanks to our partners at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Virginia has received funds that will make our citizens safer and better-prepared for emergencies,” said State Coordinator Dr. Jeff Stern.
Fifty-eight projects valued at $2.7 million have received funding from the SHSP based on competitive assessment by peer reviewers.
Grant funding includes $65,796 for disaster management system from Carroll, Dickenson, Grayson, Russell, Wise counties and the city of Norton. Southwest regional communications in Tazewell county will receive $53,126 and $75,000 for portable communication tower trailer.
In Wise County, $49,070 is for tactical team equipment, $62,235 for equipment to handle hazardous chemicals and $114,581 for southwest mass notification system.
In Bristol, $18,015 is for the state hazardous materials team and $75,000 for the technical rescue team equipment.
Also in Wise County, $86,000 is for the state hazardous materials team.
