WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT)- Three people are facing theft charges after police say they tried to scam people out of money by taking up donations under false pretenses.
Whitesburg Police Department responded to a complaint Sunday night about a vehicle that was driving around with three people inside asking for donations.
According to the arrest citation, Ina Linville approached a woman in the Whitesburg Walmart parking lot and told the woman her three-week-old daughter was sick with cancer and in Pikeville Medical Center.
However, officials found out Linville had stolen the photos of the baby from someone's Facebook account.
According to the police report, after officials asked Linville when the child was born and what the child's name is she said her memory was bad, she was nervous and couldn't remember.
Linville gave Whitesburg Police Department contact information for a social worker out of Knott County. When contacted, the social worker said she did not have a sick child and she had not overseen any sick children.
Police charged Linville with theft by deception and theft of identity of another without consent.
The two other people inside the vehicle, Tina Jenkins and Christopher Creech, of Vicco, were also arrested.
Jenkins and Creech are both charged with theft by deception.
Creech is also charged with failure to surrender revoked operators license and operating on suspended or revoked operators license.
