The leaders include Teresa Ammon, Dotti Chittester, John Fulton, Charles Henderson and Preston “P.D.” Miller. In 2006, as the Class of 1956 held its 50th class reunion, the members discussed leaving a legacy to help Burton students. The group began raising money to establish an endowed fund as UVa-Wise.
“They have reconnected with classmates and have garnered significant support from a number of folks,” said Bob Bragg, vice chancellor for development and college relations. “They are now a significant part of the UVa-Wise story.”
The group inspired others to establish endowed funds, and those funds are critical in attracting and retaining worthy and deserving students.
The Class of 1956 ended the evening by making Chancellor Donna P. Henry an honorary member of the class.
